Having a pet is fun and rewarding. I know because I own a dog and a cat. It is a good thing for my health, as we all know that pets bring mental comfort. It is also a great reason to spend time outside the house, because I have to walk my dog a couple of times every day.
As a child, I had this idyllic image that a dog pet is something fluffy to play with. It feeds by itself; it is always clean and ready to play twenty four – seven. Now, I find that image is pretty far from the truth. It is ok to buy or cook food for him. It is great to play with him. I got used to wake up early everyday to walk him. In spring and summer, it is fun to go out for long walks and then come back and just mind my business.
But in autumn and winter, there are some days when I wish my dog could fly. That happens when it rains or the snow melts. No matter what I do, or how I get it dressed, I still have to clean the dog when we come back from the regular walk. And trust me; if you have to do this at least twice a day, every day for days, you start to think about a lot of methods to train the dog to use the toilet.
Cleaning the dog was just half of the problem. I used to have a carpet in the lobby and living room. My dog loved it and for some reason I suspect him to have considered the carpet as a cleaning tool. Every autumn and winter I had to take the carpet to professional cleaning. But now it’s all history. At some point, it turned into a big headache and I looked for a solution. I decided to replace the carpet with limestone tiles.
With a thick and dense structure, limestone tiles are easy to maintain. Now it takes me a couple of minutes to wash the traces of the walk in the rain. I can use the time I save to play with the fluffy friend.
