Ainsley Construction has found a niche market giving facelifts to some of the many historic homes in Tarboro.
The family-run Tarboro company remodels, replaces window sashes and flooring and installs new outside decking. It also can build a home, install insulation and build custom-made furniture to go inside it. The company refinishes wood, does custom woodwork, flooring and cabinetry.
“One thing that sets us apart is we have woodshop,” said Taylor Ainsley, who joined the family business a year ago after graduating from East Carolina University with his contractor’s license. “We do custom furniture cabinets — any type of woodworking. We build furniture for houses. We do a lot of work on historic houses. We’ve had to make decking for historic houses, window sashes. There are not that many people around who still do that kind of work.”
Q: What services or products do you provide?
A: In our woodworking shop, we can make custom-made moldings, windows, cabinets and furniture. The customer can bring me a picture of anything. They can give me ideas. I’ll draw (the idea) on computer and relay (the plans) back to them and make sure they are OK with it. We do residential construction, new construction, remodeling, custom homes, spec homes. We also do light commercial work, custom cabinetry.
We really take the time to get to know someone before we start building. We want make sure that we can satisfy the customer on all levels.
We also have an insulation company, Spraytech East Insulation, which is really unique. We are the only company in Eastern North Carolina that does this type of rock wool insulation. It’s a really great product compared to what else is out there. This particular insulation doesn’t burn. It’s not combustible.
Q: Who are your key leaders?
A: President Charles Ainsley, Vice President Taylor Ainsley and bookkeeper Lois Ainsley.
Q: How many people do you employ?
Q: When were you established?
Q: What’s your business philosophy?
A: Just keeping the customer happy and making sure they are satisfied with our product.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: We can put a lot of personal touches on the products we provide compared to other builders who may not have the technology or skill to do that.
Q: Why did you pick Rocky Mount as a place to do business?
A: My family is from here. We like to stay close and local. We never really branched out a whole lot. We have been to Pitt County. It’s a lot easier to work around here.
Q: How has your company grown in the last several years?
A: In the past two years, we’ve hired two more employees. I’ve come on full time this past year. We started out with just a residential license. Now we have a commercial license. We’re starting to venture into a little bit of commercial work.
Q: What changes do you expect for your company in coming years?
A: I hope to really jump into the commercial market and start doing bigger projects, and hopefully growing the company and building more spec houses if the economy ever turns around.
